Recieved word from Russia

This is what we recieved from our Power of Attorney today! Things are moving along. If you read through you will see a little update on Varvara. We are so excited!!

Dear Judy,
We are on the way returning from Tver after an effective visit to the ED. Below I describe the results in short for you and for the family.

  1. We've got the papers reviewed at the adoption office today (instead of official 10-days wait to receive the answer). The officer informed us about the possible necessity to re-do any documents.  They are checking each document carefully and will let us know if they advise any changes.  It is their option to do this even though we have submitted all documents according to their plan.  Nevertheless, the Department starts work with these dossiers right now (no waiting!).
  2. We've received some additional information about the DS girl, Barbara. It is rather bright. The ED officer told she is considered as having good prospects for adaptation, she can provide for herself, she walks, and uses the spoon while eating. She is ready for adoption. The officials ask the Plummers, do they want to adopt the boy and this girl at one time (then it is necessary to describe the diagnosis of desirable boy - if he is DS also the referral can be quick and if he is not - it may take time) or they are ready to take the girl now and the boy later. There is a chance, though, that they would receive proposal for the boy while they come to meet with Barbara.
  3. Preliminarily, the family may plan their visit for the days after the 18th of April. However, it's better to wait while we receive information about the documents we filed and inform them that their corrected documents (if any are needed) are received. Let me tell you when it is possible to visit.
  4. We've received the permission for the family to submit application to the court during the time of their first visit (that would really save time, efforts and expenses). However this means they must have the documents for the court with them - I will send you the list tomorrow.
  5. This adoption would involve (due to state of health of the children) significantly more work from us, and possibly some additional documents may be requested from the parents by the court. Please let them be ready for this, and also for the rather long trips and necessity to spend time in Russia to pass all the formalities.  Maybe some days extra on both first and second trip.

With best regards,
Boris
