A little Catipillar :)

I remember it like it was yesterday, the feelings of hopelessness. The feeling that it can not be done but then God always reached down and held me tight and promised He was here. He held me as long as I needed until my feet hit the ground and my faith was restored. He is amazing like that. I pray you know Him like I do. He is everlasting and unchanging.
My friend Kelly Dirk is getting ready to travel in 20 days, its not their last but they are close to the end. Look at sweet Charlotte. There were three little girls that broke my heart two years ago and Charlotte was one of them. How could a mother ever let go of such a precious gem? I hate to imagine the joy her mother missed out on but God still has plans for little Charlotte. He chose a new mommy and daddy.

See picture number 4? This is the photo I first saw of Charlotte. I always said she reminds me of
a catipillar. How fitting little Catipillar Charlotte :)
Oh! how she makes my heart smile and cry at the same time.

I have a favor. Her family needs all of your help. Please help them in anyway possible. You know that any amount of money helps. I mean ANY!! No excuses. These are precious precious children who can not come home until the ransom is paid. I know how some of you feel and quite frankly I don't want to hear it. $5 is all it takes, $10 if you have it and of course if you want to give until it hurts a little that would be fantastic. One weeks tithe, I am pretty sure God will honor that and multiply your Church's income for a week. Please take a few minutes to pray about the amount you can give to help this family. Usually the amount that enters your mind first is the one you should give. Doesn't matter if it makes since. Doesn't matter if you know this family or not. What matters is if you are willing to help. We are all commanded to help the least of these. Don't believe me? Don't think it should be you?
I challenge you to find it in the bible. Find the place where God says only help the orphans if you feel like it. Find the place where he says only give but if it hurts your pocket book too much then don't. If you need a place in the bible for the proof He commands us to help the orphans let me know I will be more than happy to help you find it.
I guarantee the Dirkes family will be blessed and the shear sight of seeing the hand and feet of Jesus. That can't see them unless the hands and feet are moving. Don't forget we are all God has. He is counting on his children to BE the hands and feet until the return of Christ.

I am donating to get my 5 chances to win!
Do I have bills to pay - Yes.
I also have a birthday party to plan for today. Nine girls staying over night. I have gas and groceries too but I am going to trust God that he will take care of those details and help out the Dirkes family. I am not telling you this for a pat on my back. Seriously save that for you kids. I am telling you because I want you to know we are not rich, rarely is there even $5 at the end of the week but I don't care they need us to hurt just a little. Trust me Charlotte hurts everyday. I am living it right now. My daughter doesn't like to be loved on too much. She has never felt the love a mother. She hoards her plate and eat fast because I believe she worries it may be taken away. Being lonely hurts and no matter what you think Charlotte deserves a family. She needs this family.

Isn't she BEAUTIFUL????

Whats Been UP!

I wanted to just hop on here and touch base with our progress in the last few weeks and whats going on with us. Things are going well at least as well as expected. Two weeks ago is when our honeymoon ended. Those of you who didn't know about our honeymoon, it is actually what is referred to in the adoption world as that period when the babies are just as wonderful as can be. They are super good, sweet and do what ever you ask and then...... it ends! True colors come shining through. ;)
I have always been honest about my feelings on here no matter how rough it gets and I want to continue to do the same. So here is our update.
We are doing good. We are defiantly going through challenges but nothing we can't work through.
We are trying to do what will work for us. Taking in advice and seeing what works.
So here is what we have been dealing with in the past few weeks. Since Varvara is four and truly has a mind of her own ;) she is the one we are dealing with the most. She is stubborn and very strong willed. Is that the same thing? I think it is. On top of that she is brilliant!!
She is a button pusher, so if you say not to do something she likes to try it at least three times. Redirection at this point just causes her to go do something else. Although that is what I continue to do. Most of her behavior issues are because she wants attention. Good or Bad she doesn't care.
Example: If you ask her not to play with the TV remote she will walk away and find the phone and then when you take that she goes and grabs my camera and all along she knows she can not have them.
Now some may think it is the language barrier in fact many have asked me but its not. She is a brilliant little girl and understand pretty much everything I tell her or ask her.
She also no longer takes a nap with ease. The first 7 weeks she would lay down and fall asleep. Her naps were about 1.5-2 hours. And yes I said 7 weeks they have been here for nearly 9 weeks already and have been in my care for 10 weeks. Anyways back to naps, her new thing is to get up at least 3-6x. I place her back in bed each time and tell her she needs to nap. After a couple of times she starts her yelling and crying and don't forget they share a room so most times she wakes up Matvey who sleeps 2-3 hours in the afternoon. Somedays I was letting her get up and not nap but that routine ended when she refused to lay down thinking she could just get up and play. At this point I really need her to nap so I can have a small break. Its the only time me and Abigail have to work on things we want to do for school. Especially cooking. Abigail loves to cook so I try to do things with her in the afternoon. The babies both get up around 6:30-7 so by 1:00 they really need to lay down and nap.
Then comes bath days.... UGHHH!! I dread them. They are no longer a fun activity for me or Varvara. Don't get me wrong she loves baths the same as she has since day one but now you can not wash her hair or her body without her screaming. I have tried all sorts of things to help her and ME! Although I have not put in earplugs ;)  She didn't complain the first month. She didn't care what you did, wash her, her hair, her feet nothing bothered her. I would take in consideration that maybe she had bad experiences at the orphanage but I really don't think that is it. I really think she is crying because she wants to play with her toys and she protests anything you ask her to do. She cries when you brush her hair but only if you have her sit the way you need her too. If she does it on her own time when she feels like it she is fine. I don't always let her get her way since we all know what that leads to.
The hardest part is trying to figure out why she is responding the way she does to things. Is it because of where she came from, her age, adjustment, down syndrome, stobborness, so on and so on.
I feel guilty for being frustrated with her. I feel guilty the times when I am impatient with her.
Food Issues??? Oh yes she has those. I expected it. They are not major issues but she gets so mad at times. Our biggest task we are working on is small bits and only one. Sometimes I feet like a helicopter parent. I hate being a helicopter sorry please do not take offense but helicopter parent are annoying. Admit it they are annoying. She over loads her spoon to the point it barley fits in her mouth and then when she has half chewed it she puts the next mouthful in. So as of now we resorted to only using a toddler fork for everything. It has helped with the big bites but not the two or three bits at once. So we continue to gently rest out hand on her fork until her bite is done. We know it will take time and encouragement for her to break the habit.  She also get very upset when you touch her plate or help her with a bite. I just continue to tell her "Mommies help there children. And I want to help you"
I am not really just picking on Varvara. I love her dearly and she is a joy to have here. We just have a long way to go before she trusts us as parents. I know it hasn't been long and we are prepared for the time it will take to get us where we need to be. And it's okay, just some days are really really tiring.
As for Matvey, he is really is quite easy. Thank you Lord for one easy little one. We mainly deal with orphanage behavior from him. He does a lot of rocking and what we call "chanting". You would think it wouldn't be a big deal but after and hour of him rocking/chanting it gets a little much. He also bangs his head on the crib or wall in the middle of the night. Its the way learned to sooth his lonliness with no mamma. Oh how I hate being woken up in the middle of the night.  I nursed all my bio kids and they slept with us for the first two years so I never really had to come to a full wake (advantages of breastfeeding), so the banging in the middle of the night compares to the screaming at bath time.
Really I am not complaining I am just letting you know that our life isn't always peachy keen here. We have our days that aren't so good. I have challenges that I didn't have with my bio kids. I am learning everyday how to love these little ones more and more. Still and not ever do have any regrets. I know this is what God has planned for us. Now all I have to do is Trust Him and lean not on my own understanding.  No matter what challenges arise I will always and forever hold onto the promises of my Father in Heaven.
I will never leave you nor forsake you. Hebrews 13:5
I believe this. I hold onto this daily.

So the things that are going so well. Just let me brag ;)
Varvara is using the potty when we put her on it. Now I know that is not "her being potty trained" but we are using only two diapers a day, which, I happen to love ;) She has an amazing memory!! She is signing please when she wants something. She is Super Duper Absorbent like this >

She remembers everything and copies everyone. Monkey see, Monkey Do! She is a good mamma to her babies, always hugging them and kissing them. She also "in a fun way" spanks their butts. I always spake the babies butt in their diapers. Don't worry just in fun. In a very high squeaking voice we yell "spank your butt, spank your butt!"
Matvey is pulling himself up now to a stand. He is learning to play with the toys around him. He investigates them for a few minutes then tosses them to the side. And he is learning what "shhhhh" means. When he is chanting, very LOUDLY, we say "shhhhh" and he goes to a whisper. YEah!!! our ears get a small break which only last about 10 seconds ;)
They both are growing bit by bit. I haven't seen much of a weight gain from Matvey but Varvara seemed to gain about 2lbs. They both had doctor appointments last week and are being referred to a gasologist, cardiologist, orthopedic doctor and dentist. They were both born with hole in their hearts but they were cleared in Russia so it is mainly just a check up with the cardiologist. Matvey has to go to the gastroenterologist because he does spit up more than we thought. He swallows his spit up. I thought he was dairy intolerant but he isn't. I have been giving him smaller meals and only 4oz. of his bottle at a time and it seems to help a bit. Orthopedic, because Varvara's feet are just as flat as can be and turn in on to what should be her arches. Matvet stands on his heals most of the time. Dentist.... UGHH!!! All of Matvey's molars are rotted. He has at least 5 cavities, BIG ONES. Varvara's are pretty good; she does have some staining but that might be from the tea and coffee they gave her. So we will see what comes of all the appointments. Overall they are in good health. I am so excited to see them grow and develop.
Toodaloo!!!

Pic's of the DAY! Enjoy

I am not sure if it is me or the babies that enjoy these more. They are the sweetest little stacking houses.
Each little animal has its own house.

A perfect fit for little hands.

Time for a nap little ones.

Matvey has learned to pull himself up to the
table so he won't miss out on any fun.

I just love their sweet faces.

Look Who's talking Now

OH NO!! I meant naughty now, not talking. :)

This would be the $10 little container of lotion.
Naughty Naughty Matvey!!!

but it feels soooo good all squished in your hands.

and the taste wasn't too bad.

We Love this little Guy even when he is

N-A-U-G-H-T-Y

Who is She?

An orphan for four years.... That's what she is NOT!
She is a princess of our Lord. I am thankful He chose us to love her.
Four years she waited and over 100 families said "No, she's not for us" I can't believe over 100 families look into her big brown eyes and said "No".
IF only they gave her the time of day they would of saw a princess.
She loves unconditionally with the best kisses ever. On each cheek and your lips too she says "BA" and never forgets the second cheek. She LOVES her new baby brother with all her heart. He never gets away without at least 3 kisses.

She has a contagious giggle.
When she is in her car seat she dances, it looks like she is tooting a train whistle and she is singing along.
I know it will take work for her to attach to me as her mama but I will be patient and wait.
I have no doubt she loves all of us as her own but this little one loves the world as her own.
She is a spit fire too!
She is mischievous and disobedient just to be sure you are paying attention to her too.
"What? I didn't do this."

Don't let those big brown eyes fool you, she is one clever little girl. She misses nothing. She remembers everything down to every last detail. She is one big smarty pants.
I love her dearly and are so thankful she is here.
I am excited for her future to see who she becomes. She is strong willed and full of life.
She loves those around her and there are no conditions to her love.

She always wants in on the action there isn't a thing you can do to Matvey that she doesn't want done to her beside getting her hair washed in the bath tub.  In fact there are very few things that she doesn't like and that is one of them. She screams louder than a fire engine. What ever you do don't put any water on her head not even a single drop. It's a battle we only endure every other day. I wish we could go longer but since she sucks her two fingers at night her hair smells not so good by the second day :P.
She also doesn't like you to touch her plate of food. She protests any help but I tell her "mommies help there little girls when they need it", the protest end quickly because she sees that I have accomplished getting the last scoop of salad on her spoon. This girl will not leave a crumb which is good for us because she eats all her veggies and I am pretty sure she doesn't love them all ;)
Did I mention she is gorgeous? Just beautiful.
When she smiles her eyes disappear and become little crescents.

She is funny and super silly. Here she is sunk down in a bean bag chair.
I have to admit I am not a morning person. I never have been. I'm not the type who sleeps in late but when I do wake up it takes me a bit to talk and get on with the morning. Guess who waddles down EVERY morning at 7am sharp? Yep this little angle. I'm getting used to waking up to this sweet face but I also should say, not many words are exchanged until I am fully awake ;) "Banana and cereal coming up"

These are those big brown eyes I was talking about. Just don't understand how you could say no to that! But then again God knew she was for our family so I am thankful for  100 families who said "no"
I am even more thankful we said "Yes"

"Yes" to this crazy life.
"Yes" to this busy life.
"Yes" to this to this full life.
"Yes" to this life that God has planned for us.
Don't get me wrong its challenging. It is hard at times. There are days when I go to bed asking God to forgive me for the patients I lacked during the day, for the times when I wasn't sensitive to my children's needs, for times when I didn't make time for anyone but myself and for the times when I ask "why me", "why this".
But I wouldn't change a thing, I would go back in time to change decisions I made. I love my life. I love my family. I am blessed. I have things I don't deserve. I am living life as a princess of our Lord, a wife, a mom of five and one is about to become a teenager. YIKES!!

Matvey and my soon to be teen Isabella.

Just in case you have a feeling your missing someone for your family click here: www.reecesrainbow.org.  Don't forget these aren't homeless children they are familyless. They don't need a warm coat or bed to sleep in they need unconditional love. They need a mommy and daddy. They need YOU!

Who is he?

Three long and lonely years he laid in a crib. He waited to be held and loved.
Today he is my son.
He is a gem and I love him dearly.
He astounds me everyday.
He takes my breath away with his sweet giggle when I hold him.
Matvey is a little prince who I can barely let go of during the day.
He prefers me....
and I love it ;)
He sees his mama across the room and crawls as fast as he can to get to me, he then
looks up at me with his big blue eyes and his big cheeky grin....
waiting to be pick up and cuddled.
Today he crawled all the way across the room and for the first time in his life
all by himself he pulled up to the coffee table.
Just three weeks ago he didn't even move from the spot you sat him and now today
he crawled to his mama and with complete joy he pulled himself up.
When he stood on his two tiny legs he beamed.
His smile went from ear to ear and then he let out a huge
Yeah!!!!! accompanied with clapping hands. Not once but three times. It took everything I had to keep my composure. It melted my heart.
It brings a lump in my throat and tears to my eyes to think of how far he has come since we first met our son. To tell you the truth he overwhelmed me. I didn't know if I would be capable to mother such
a tiny frail little guy. He was almost three and could do anything for himself. But God knew that before we
even met him and he still chose me to be his mama.
I can hardly believe he almost didn't make it into our family.
I am so thankful that God is persistent in his plans.
I told my daughter today that I can not believe we almost didn't adopt him.
I can not imagine our family without this little one.
He is a joy.
He is amazing.
He is perfect.
He was given to our family by our Father in Heaven.
I am sure we did nothing to deserve someone so special but what I do know is we will be forever
thankful. I do know when you step out in Faith and Faith alone you will be blessed.
Lay your eyes on our little blessing and then go to reecesrainbow and find yours, be careful they will steal your heart and make you stretch your faith more than you ever thought possible.
Don't think God would call you to something like this? You think you could never bring a child into your family that not only you didn't birth but also with special needs?
Matthew 17:20 says "You don't have enough faith," Jesus told them. "I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it would move. Nothing would be impossible."
I am no one special. I don't have anything extraordinary. God didn't call us into this journey because we
possessed something you don't have. He calls many of us. He calls more than we can even fathom.
The problem is that many choose to walk away. Many think it is something that they can't do. Thank God that we didn't walk away because this little guy would have no hope for a future beyond the four walls of an orphanage. Over 50 families gave up hope for this little guy and I thank God everyday that he saved Matvey for us. He trusts us to love, nurture, and care for this little being.
We will do all we can to cherish his life.

Life's a gift and if we don't all start opening our eyes, hearts and families to these gifts
We will all miss out on the many blessings God has planned for us all.

196

Check it out 196 orphans became part of a family in 2010. My sweet babies are in here.
Can you spot them?
and don't forget go to Reece's Rainbow.org to find you missing little one.
What? You aren't missing one?
I beg to differ.

Snowy Days

Snowy days of Michigan have started. We all headed out and took a spin in Matvey's new sled.
They both loved being pulled around and were quite disappointed to go inside.

Keegan worked on this snowman while his big sister
tormented him.

Abigail pulled the babies around a bit so I could snap some photos.
Thanks Abby.

One of my absolutle all time favorite photos.
;) Notice Varya's mitten it's upside down. I am guessing
her thumb was not in the hole.

HAPPY SNOW DAY!!

She Wears Her Sunglasses at Night

"Let me see if I can figure these out"

"Not sure this is what you meant"

"Really? This is how?"

"Awesome, I like these."

"Now you sit still Matvey. I have mastered these sunglasses."

"Varvara, I do not think this is right."

"I think your right Matvey. This seem much better."
